STRAYA & me(dia)

I've been decidedly very patriotic/loving Australian film/tv/production recently.
It is SO great really.
(So I must share my thoughts and sentiments on this very important topic with you):

1. OFFSPRING
SHHH don't spoil it for me, I'm only up to Season 2 but it is a very stellar show. Initially I was bathed in scepticism: "blah it'll be rubbish I bet just like home and away etc", but such scathing views were erased by a tidal wave of joy as I started watching the Melbourne-filmed drama (and comedy?).
Neurotic Nina allows me to feel less weird in my own sometimes-neurosis; I especially love the in-her-head scenarios being played out 'irl'. She is so relatable and it seems likely I will endure a similar owl infatuation when I am older (although probably with cats?)
And the men! Oh the sexy hunks. Chris Havill is still my number 1 fave babe, despite the support of my friends for pouting Patrick (although his tatt is impressive). (And feast your eyes upon the fleeting Fraser) (OH and what about MICK and his eyes and his talent?)
I love the family dynamic of the Proudman family: I can only hope that as my sisters and I get older, we will be as close (and as crazy?). I think it is a perfectly crafted show: perfect balance laughter and tears and agony and ecstasy and dilemma.
Maybe it has even had a moderately profound impact upon me? (I think it makes me excited to get older?)

2. PUBERTY BLUES
Away yee naysayers, this show was GREAT. Nevermind the book (which I didn't read), this 10-part (?) drama on channel 10 was some nice television. Unequivocally Aussie, it allowed all the parents to relive their log-lost youths and allowed me laugh at a world I could barely imagine.
It was a tough life to be a kid in the 70s, with chiko rolls and gender-role restrictions and so many games. It was so dinkum - the accents were okker, the references littered.
Also coined such phrases/references as: PASS THE VASO (yes), YA MOLL and YOU'RE DROPPED.

3. A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM
I was so lucky lucky to see this show tonight and it was the best live production I have seen ever ever.
Geoffrey Rush was a force and an enigma and so magnificent I may not have words to describe. HIS FACE his face. And his legs. AND HE CAN SING did you know this??
Supported by a suitably magnificent and talented cast (HEY its that guy/girl from packed to the rafters/thank god you're here/the jenny craig adverts??) - I laughed and laughed until my jaws hurt (and maybe I even shed a baby tear)
